FAQ
Subtitling, answered
Subtitles carry the dialogue, usually translated into another language, for viewers who can hear the audio but do not speak it. Captions carry the dialogue in the same language as the audio and add speaker labels and sound cues for viewers who cannot hear it. Tell us which audience you are serving and we produce the right one.
We deliver in the format your platform requires, including SRT, VTT, SCC, TTML, STL and DFXP. Tell us where the video will be published and we return files ready to upload, with timing and line breaks checked against that platform’s requirements.
Pricing depends on video length, language pairs, whether a script exists, and turnaround. Most projects are quoted per minute of source video after a short scope review. Share the video or the runtime and we send a tailored quote, usually within 24 hours.
Timelines scale with runtime and the number of target languages. Languages run in parallel, so a video in six languages does not take six times longer than a video in one. For urgent releases we prioritize and confirm a delivery date with the quote.
Yes. Pangea works to ISO 17100 (translation services) and ISO 9001 (quality management) standards, with GDPR-compliant data handling. Every subtitle file is proofread and signed off on quality assurance before delivery.
Yes. SDH subtitles add speaker identification and sound cues such as music, laughter or off-screen noise, so viewers who cannot hear the audio follow the full scene. They are required by most streaming platforms and by accessibility standards including WCAG and the ADA. Tell us the platform and we format to its specification.
Yes. Burned-in subtitles are rendered into the picture and cannot be switched off, which is what social platforms and muted autoplay feeds need. Separate subtitle files stay editable and switchable. If you are not sure which you need, tell us where the video runs and we advise.
Yes, and it usually makes the project faster and cheaper. Send an approved script, a transcript, or an existing SRT or VTT file, and we translate and adapt from there rather than starting from the audio. If there is no script, we work from the video itself.
Yes. Unreleased game builds, earnings calls, internal training and regulated marketing all run under signed non-disclosure agreements, controlled tooling and GDPR-compliant data handling. Access is limited to the linguists assigned to your project.
